Radishes are quick and easy to grow. Ready to harvest in as little as four weeks. This plant requires little space, so makes a great gap-filler in a veggie plot. There is little maintenance, apart from regular watering and weeding.
As a spring to early summer crop, salad radishes are best sown directly from April in drills covered lightly with soil. Thin out seedlings to encourage each plant to form its own roots. By sowing regularly, you will have a steady supply of radishes.
Radishes are ready to harvest when they start to pop out of the soil. Once harvested, they are best eaten fresh but can be stored in the fridge for up to a week. Radishes are crunchy and delicious with a mild peppery flavour. You can eat them raw in salads.
