At the foot of the Yorkshire Wolds, you will find the market town of Pocklington. Stop off at the popular seaside resort town of Scarborough. Here the headland, with the dramatic ruins of the 12th century castle, splits the two bays apart.
Founded by the ancient Romans, the walled city of York is definitely worth a visit. Here, you will certainly be transported back in time, with the city’s array of medieval architecture. Located on the edge of the Howardian Hills, Kirkham Abbey offers a great walking trail. This tranquil spot offers views of the riverside ruins of Kirkham Priory and showcases the beauty of the surrounding landscape.
Yorkshire Coastline
Stretching for nearly 100 miles, the spectacular Yorkshire coast boosts one of the UK’s top wildlife spectacles. Bempton Cliffs is home to half a million seabirds and the UK’s largest seabird colony. Be captivated by the panoramic sea views and sheer cliffs, where seabirds soar and dive. You will even have the chance to see nesting seabirds including puffins, gannets and guillemots. Vast sandy beaches are perfect for walking. At Fraisthorpe, you will be able to spot debris from sea defences and WWII structures on the beach.
Flamborough Head is recognisable for its beautiful rugged white cliffs. Windswept paths wind around the cliff tops offering opportunities to spot wildlife. Why not grab yourself some fish & chips in Scarborough but, be careful of the seagulls. If you would rather avoid the crowds, head to the picturesque fishing village of Sandsend. You can even walk along the beach to the historic town of Whitby (approx. 3.5 miles) but, be sure to check the tide times so you don’t get caught out.
The Yorkshire Coast is certainly a diverse place offering awe-inspiring natural beauty.
